Jon the Baptist

JON THE BAPTIST

"Finally they said, 'Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?'
John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, 'I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way for the LORD.'"

Now the Pharisees who had been sent questioned him, 'Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"

"I baptize with water," John replied, "but among you stands one you do not know. He (Jesus) is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie." -Gospel of John 1:22-27

Enjoying God's Beautiful Perspective of Eternity

I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. - Ecclesiastes 3:10-11
I'm 22 years old, getting ready to graduate college in a few months. I should have graduated a year ago, but life throws you curves. I'm terribly impatient, and this short time until graduation feels like eternity. Time is powerful, and impossible to control. I am striving to keep a positive perspective and make the most of my time on this planet we call earth. There are so many times when I want to pout about my current circumstances. Immediately, however, I am stunned by my lack of perspective. Do I have food? Do I have clothes and a roof over my head? Thanks to my loving parents, yes and yes. Why then, do I rob the joy of living with more than enough food and drink to take pleasure in? Time will tell that there is nothing better for me than to be joyful and to do good as long as I live. No matter what my current state is, even in poverty. Now this is tricky...what if I didn't have food and drink to enjoy? Well hopefully there would be people who would be willing to share and do good, but do I really need that joyful giver's food and drink in the end? No, what I need ultimately in the end is that joy with which they possess. This is why Jesus says "I am the Living Water, and the Bread of Life." Jesus had an eternal perspective. We should too. Because if we do, we will enjoy the blessings in this life and set our hearts on eternal life through God's grace, in His time. And His timing is perfect, so God help me to remain on your schedule!
